Common Sense Conservative
Born and raised in Lebanon, Tennessee, Bernie attended the local
public schools and graduated from Lebanon High School in 1965. He is the father of three grown children and has eight grandchildren of whom he is very proud.
Ash joined the Air Force in May of 1966 and served as a Chaplain Services Specialist for the next four years. During his service he served a tour at Phu Cat, South Vietnam and was honorably discharged in 1970 with the rank of Sergeant. He was awarded the National Defense Service Ribbon, the Vietnam Service Ribbon, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, The Presidential Unit Citation, The Good Conduct Ribbon and the Air Force Commendation Medal for his service.
When Bernie returned home, he attended Cumberland College while working with his father and brother in the family well drilling business. Then in 1981, he moved to Houston, Texas and worked as a Drilling Fluids Engineer for IMCO Services, a division of Halliburton Co. He returned to Lebanon in 1986 and started Creative Photography where he continued for the next twenty- one years.
Ash was elected Commissioner for District 23 in 1994 and retained that position for 16 years. In February of 2012 he obtained the position of Veterans Service Officer for Wilson County working to help veterans obtain the benefits they qualify for as well as with any other needs they may have such as employment and housing.
He was instrumental in raising funds to build the Wilson County Veterans Plaza and Museum, located next to the Court House on East Main Street.
After being elected to the Lebanon City Council, Ward 4 in November of 2014, he has served on the City Planning Commission and the Public Works Committee.
Bernie was elected Mayor of the City of Lebanon in November 2016.
